This photo was taken in Costa Rica and continues to be one of my favorites. In many ways, I think it epitomizes the 2-minute photo concept well. The idea that sometimes beauty hides in plain sight. And, if we are in a rush or not fully present, we will miss it.
Costa Rica has rich forests and an abundance of animals. While walking on a local trail I came upon this beautifully textured and crisply colored leaf. The leaf was about the length of a person’s arm and it curls in on itself in an artful way.
I particularly love how your eye is drawn towards the top of the leaf (top right of the photo) and then is transported down and across the image to the center of the leaf’s curl. It reminds me of a waterslide and I can imagine sliding down it into the center.
Then I looked closer and saw this beautifully camouflaged frog sitting in the middle. If you zoom in you can even see the frog’s eyes!
And the background! The background has beautifully rich dark greens and stems shooting from all directions. Almost to remind you that this seemingly simple scene is indeed in the middle of a forest full of chaos.

We’re going down, down, down in a burnIng ring of fire. 🤷🏻♀️
